Elf On The Shelf: When Should Parents Start?

We’ve got a parenting dilemma on our hands: Should Sisanie start Elf On the Shelf in her household this holiday season or wait? As Sis explained on-air to Ryan Seacrest and Tanya Rad, her twins Aiza and Maxon are only 18 months and, as parents know, Elf On the Shelf is a serious commitment.

In case you didn’t know, Elf On the Shelf is a book, and accompanying toy, that tells a Christmas-themed story written in rhyme that explains how Santa Claus knows who is naughty and nice. The Elf “visits” family homes between Thanksgiving and Christmas to watch over kids to report back to Santa who was naughty and who was nice.

Every day, the elf engages in different activities and situations and moves around for children to find it.

“It’s exciting, but it’s a huge commitment,” Sisanie explained. “Should I start this now when they’re 1 and half or when they’re five?”

One caller suggested that Sisanie wait because of the daily setup commitment, but what does Seacrest think? Find out in the video above and sound off on social @OnAirWithRyan what you think and also your favorite Elf On the Shelf scenarios and stories!

’Tis the season!
