Residents took to social media on Friday morning to warn other residents of billowing black smoke coming from a central Kentucky Walmart, reported Herald-Leader.
First responders arrived on the scene just before 11 a.m. The Harrodsburg Police Department confirmed the fire on Friday morning.
The fire department gave an official statement on Facebook at around 2 p.m. It said:
"Today at approximately 9:40am Harrodsburg Fire Department was called to Walmart Tire Center at 591 Joseph Dr. There was a fire located in a used tire and battery storage cage on the outside of the building. Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire. The fire was contained to the cage and did not extend into the building. One firefighter sustained a minor injury and did not require medical treatment. No civilians were injured."
Posts from residents showed thick, black smoke billowing from the roof of the store.
Harrodsburg resident Cody Miller said he noticed the smoke as he was pulling in to the parking lot. Miller said the fire seemed to have started near the tire and automotive center.
He told Herald-Leader, "We saw about two fire trucks and two ambulances arrive out here but they had it under control in about 30 minutes."
Resident Sheila Kendrick Scott posted a photo of the smoke. A comment from Scott said that it seemed like everyone got out of the store safely.
Terry Durr got closer photos of the fire and posted them to Facebook as well.
